Job Description:
Assist with complex data cleaning, integration, and analysis of public health data. The Data Scientist will collaborate with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and data stewards to ensure data projects are accurate and fulfill business needs for various data projects, including COVID-19.
Some responsibilities are but not limited to -
- Leverages appropriate analytic and visualization tools (SQL, R, Python, Tableau, others) to develop complex data cleaning, integration, and analysis projects. Applies appropriate coding and statistical methodology to fulfill stakeholder requirements.
- Coordinates with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to define requirements, organize and lead meetings, present findings, solicit feedback, and establish enhancement cycles.
- Communicates data project results for a variety of audiences. Builds visualizations, collaborates on report writing, presents to internal and external stakeholders, and pursues publication as applicable. Audiences may include specific VDH programs, VDH leadership, other government agencies, the general public, healthcare providers, community action groups, and/or academic journals.
- Builds relationships and collaborates with diverse internal and external stakeholders including subject-matter experts, data stewards, and others as applicable.
- Contributes to team documentation. Ensures that scripts are commented out and routine processes are described step-wise. Includes data cleaning steps, sources, filters, assumptions, and purposes in documentation.
- Proactively identifies process, database, and analysis improvements. Identifies, communicates, and implements innovative strategies without overstepping programmatic ownership.
- Conducts other duties as requested/assigned.
Required Qualifications (Skills, Experience, Education, Certifications)
- Bachelor’s Degree with coursework in biostatistics or equivalent combination of experience and education
- Strong data analysis skills in SQL, Tableau, R, REDCap, and Microsoft Excel
- Willingness to work occasional weekends and holidays
- Experience working collaboratively with diverse groups and projects with defined timelines and deadlines simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications (Skills, Experience, Education, Certifications)
- Master’s Degree with coursework in biostatistics or equivalent
- Proficiency with SQL, R, Tableau Desktop, Tableau Prep, and REDCap
- Familiarity with health/public health data
